H5N1 will make more of us sicker than Covid did. More people will die. We won’t be able to respond. There will be profound impacts on agriculture, the economy, & food security. More people will die from that.

There is a reason virologists lose sleep over avian flu.

One of the reasons we were able to trace the SARS 1 virus was that China kept samples from the market. This time no samples were kept. As well as the culling up the supply lines of any animal plausibly response, it leans towards destroying evidence.

For all the talk about the potential coverups at WIV, we know that China explicitly came and covered up all the evidence of the natural origin at the market by not taking any samples before bleaching the whole building and slaughtering every animal in the supply chain.

The meat of the column is a March 2020 article that said a lab leak was possible but unlikely. One of the authors initially believed in the lab leak theory but eventually changed his mind after looking at the evidence. That's it! That's the smoking gun she spends hundreds of words relitigating.

The entire column is just a collection of conspiracy tropes. Rather than defend the lab leak theory on the merits, she goes into excruciating detail about how it was suppressed in the early months of the pandemic.
