The Nation pulls NO punches, from @espiers.bsky.social

"There's no requirement to take part in this whitewashing campaign. Refusing to join in doesn’t make anyone a bad person. It’s a choice to write an obituary that begins “Joseph Goebbels was a gifted marketer and loving father to six children.”

I think I will be re-reading this for some time to come.

It is good, important work.
Today: On how all the normalizing is about (in part) fear of facing the grief & loss that this moment demands.

But people have been up against harder, and faced it down.

This is new terrain, but we can do this.

It's time for you to become the leader you seek.

We must figure this out together.
Feel. Then Do.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I will note that pulpit from which the Bishop gave her sermon is not only the one from which Martin Luther King Jr gave his last sermon on the Sunday before he was killed, it also contains a panel of a man being martyred, paired with an exhortation for God to open the eyes of a tyrannical leader.
