Cultural facilities, such as cinemas and theaters, are the beating hearts of our communities because they contribute to making them more human. If a city is alive, it is thanks in part to its cultural spaces. We must inhabit these spaces and build relationships within them, day after day. Nonetheless, cinemas are experiencing a troubling decline, with many being removed from cities and neighborhoods. More than a few people are saying that the art of cinema and the cinematic experience are in danger. I urge institutions not to give up but to cooperate in affirming the social and cultural value of this activity. The logic of algorithms tends to repeat what "works," but art opens up what is possible. Not everything has to be immediate or predictable. Defend slowness when it serves a purpose, silence when it speaks and difference when evocative. Beauty is not just a means of escape; it is, above all, an invocation. When cinema is authentic, it does not merely console but challenges. It articulates the questions that dwell within us and sometimes even provokes tears that we did not know we needed to express.

Aaagh, since I misunderstood the assignment- some of my knitting and my herb garden last July.

I’m Audrey, an artist who enjoys color, nature, and fantasy. My hobbies include anything with string/fiber, I love baking and cooking, and a hyper-focus is plants and native gardening! I love looking really hard at things to see subtle color and bring it out in my work!

It is accented with gold leaf to help it stand out from the dark background. A string of hearts succulent plant, a vine coiled back on itself with heart shaped leaves with small veins. The leaves are sunstressed until they are pink with lighter mottling, green and shades of purple showing. A landscape of the Rocky Mountain range from the north side of Colorado Springs that includes one of the red sandstone rock formations of Garden of the Gods on the right. Trees dot the low foothills in the foreground. Above, the sky is in turmoil at sunset with bright pinks and storm clouds moving in.

Well folks, I think we could all use a rabbit or two in these trying times.

BunBun is as soft as she looks. Apollo needs brushing but he’s actually softer.
Two rabbits, a female black and gray mini lionhead and a male albino Rex, sit together with their ears cocked enthusiastically towards the sounds of their dinner salad being prepared. Behind them are some chewed willow twigs they enjoy. They are hanging out on a very posh wool rug they’ve likely ruined.

The 5yo’s kinder class started pumpkin seeds for science, and he of course brought it home. I’m keeping it alive as one does. And the damn thing is BUDDING INDOORS.

Some whole spices are scattered on the table, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In the background on a sideboard beneath the window rest a harvest of a basket of apples, a pumpkin carved into a lit jack-o-lantern, reddish decorative corn, and a mushroom. We did the thing! Pumpkins carved. Older child did much of his himself. Younger chose his design, helped me poke transfer the design, then let me cut it. ☺️🎃 #halloween

Not me making up a last minute sleeping beauty costume I can’t afford. Sigh!

Next part is the gusset, it’s the tough bit. You knit back across the bottom of the heel, pick up the last stitch in each row along the side of the heel flap, knit the fancy cuff pattern along the front of the cuff we’ve been ignoring, and then pick up the other side of the heel flap. Full circle.
You can see I knit around the outside of the heel, then picked up and knit a stitch at the end of each row of the heel flap. This is a partially knit blue and purple sock on a red circular needle in my lap. From there I continued to knit the fancy pattern across the top of the instep which was on the needle I’ve been ignoring until now. Then I keep picking up stitches DOWN the other side of the heel flap, until I’m back at the heel on the bottom of the sock. See, full circle again! What’s on the circular needle is the part that the foot would go through from the ankle/heel of the sock.

So here’s the actual heel- this is knit by knitting to the center of the heel flap, turning, and knitting/purling short rows with decreases at either end until you’ve formed an even curve at both ends of the flap.

Alright! Let’s turn a sock heel. This is the flap knit off the cuff. Next I’ll pick up stitches on the sides of the flap on both sides to create the turn of the sock at the heel. I’ll attempt to add more photos as I go. ☺️ 🧶 (This yarn with this pattern is like pixel art, I love it.)
