I pledge my eternal loyalty to whichever team who drafts Scrappy Hopkins.

Here are the same two graphs, except they only show the past 28 days. Robert has slashed .354/.419/.554. More takes and an above average wOBA

Sometimes, the most obvious solution is the best one.

Here is Statcast’s diagram of Luis Robert Jr’s total pitches seen and wOBA this season.

Do you see that bottom right corner? Where he’s seen 349 pitches and a .251 wOBA? I call that the “Javier Baez zone,” where breaking pitches dive away from the hitter and there’s almost no chance of contact.

Luis Robert would have wiped himself out on both of these two-strike pitches back in June.

The other encouraging this by so far is that the massive swing hole in the top of the zone that was killing him in the minors hasn’t been an issue. Now, he’s gotta focus on covering low in the zone.

Pitchers know how to exploit him already; they are getting him to chase off the edges. He’s just not missing mistakes pitches. I think that’s a reliable foundation for growth.

The quest to go .500 in August continues today when the Sox begin a 3-game set against the Mariners.

Since joining the Sox in 2023, Andrew Benintendi has slashed .412/.474/.647 in 19 PA at T-Mobile Park.

If Luis Robert is still on the White Sox on August 1st, he and Colson Montgomery need to re-create this photo and sell it on a T-shirt that I can buy on the Dan Ryan overpass.

🚨🚨WHITE SOX FACTS🚨🚨

Luke Appling has the third-longest on-base streak in White Sox history, with 53 games.

Zeke Bonura is tied for fourth, with 48 games.

From July 13 to August 6, 1936, their two streaks overlapped. The Sox record was 39-40 on July 13. By August 6, it was 57-47.

Sosa launched another piss missile within the launch angle sweet spot (between 8 and 32 degrees.) This is part of Sosa’s elite bat-to-ball skill set; 88th percentile this season, 99th percentile last year.

T-5. Jose Abreu, August 22, 2020

(13 Total Bases)

Abreu is tied with Tim Raines and Seby Zavala for fifth. Abreu’s game was against the Cubs during the COVID season; his 3-homer effort in that win did a lot for his MVP campaign.

T-2. Bill Melton, June 24, 1969

(14 Total Bases)

Beltin’ Bill Melton had a double and three home runs against the expansion Seattle Pilots. All three home runs were solo shots; Melton only had 3 RBIs to show for his historic effort.
