I do truly appreciate it. I have a picnic table full of plants that ive just been giving to whoever shows up with seeds or whathaveyou, but if i can stock the stall knowing it wont all just get taken for nothing, it means the picnic table can be cleared more frequently!

This is a small urban property, so it's good to remind ourselves that this can happen, we can try to mitigate it, and sometimes it will happen anyway. It can also pose opportunity for those of us interested in growing out these acts of natural happenstance for interests sake.

#seedswap 2pm next Sunday 24th August, Broad Bay school.
Please bring surplus seeds, any seeds special to you, and pick up some new seeds, there will be tomato multi packs and beans for anyone to help in the Ōtepoti grow outs of tomatoes, beans, capsicums, by sharing couple of fruit back in Autumn

Please join us in building seedy resources for Ōtepoti! Still a lot of tomato seeds for everyone wanting to grow tomatoes, with agreement to share some fruit back in Autumn for seed for 2026 growing season. It's important to be involved in something constructive and beautiful amongst all the news.

This low winter light on these icy mornings does something for my brain 😍 I'm not a photographer, I can't capture its true beauty

Thank you to Fiona for sharing some White Iceicle radish seed. I will process these and get them out into the library but probably also grow some out here to keep a supply of seed as its very popular

Thank you to the beautiful Jae for sharing some heirloom tomato and some chilli seed to the library. It is such a privilege to see these seeds as they move around our community. I feel so incredibly lucky to see these varieties as they come and go, season after season.

Who out there in Otepoti is able to help me build up tomato seed for a good cause? Good cause as in free seedy resources for all people.

Im also planning to do this with beans, so if you'd prefer to grow beans, im going to get tomatoes out first and probably get onto beans mid August.

This means over time, this hardiness gets selected for over and over and passed on to the next generation. These are naturally hardy vegetables (chard, celtuce, beans, garlic, celery, peas), but any damage from frost shows where any weakness is that would be good to eliminate if possible.

I have been collecting tomato seed for years to stock the seed library. I have a problem, however, in that it all needs regular growing out and I dont have room.
It would be a huge shame for Dunedin to lose this seed, so I have a wee plan.

Some of us are experiencing our #humanrights being ignored, refused and denied based on #gender, #sex, #ethnic background, #income or #edcation. This cannot be excused or tolerated in a #seedsaving community. Humans have an #intrinsic right to participate in the nature they are part of.

We need more #seedsavers. More saving and #sharing #seeds with each other, adapting seed, acclimating seed, ensuring all people have #access to seed, especially those who can't afford it. We need this seed saved and shared to #community #gardens, #kindies, #schools, #resthomes,#hospitals. 🌱🇳🇿💚📸

Thank you to Jean, who dropped off some tomato seed. These will all be bagged up and set about the place in winter. For anyone else who is saving seed, if you have surplus, share it around your local community.

Debbie sent 📸 through from Port Chalmers, #Ōtepoti. Remember, seed sharing and #seed #libraries look different in every #community, reflecting the #culture of that community. Sometimes it's all packaged up in funky, arty envelopes, sometimes the name is written on dried seedpods.
