Immense show by My Bloody Valentine at Wembley Arena last night. Phenomenally loud and absolutely blissful/thrilling at peak. That mid-section of You Made Me Realise remains a truly brutal sonic onslaught. Think my ears have just about survived.

Radiohead at the O2 Arena. A brilliantly wide-ranging show that incorporated a generous selection of hits (three songs from The Bends, six songs from OK Computer), some superb moments from their mid-period and some impressively esoteric/experimental detours along the way ❤️

"The singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope, the singer out of Slipknot went to Rome to see the Pope and this is what he said... who the fucking hell are Slipknot, who the fucking hell are Slipknot, who the fucking hell are Slipknot in relation to me getting out of bed?"

Chicago post-jazz/post-rock/post-everything ensemble Tortoise at the Barbican last night. So happy to have seen them again, a mere 24 years after I last saw them at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Such a unique and engaging blend of sounds and ridiculously high levels of musicianship.

I only really listen to two shows on 6 Music these days (the two obvious ones for a man in his late 40s 😄) but respect to Nick Grimshaw who played The Stone Roses debut album in full yesterday morning.

This is a great interview. Mani comes across as so intelligent and articulate ❤️

Hearing them play this second song in at Wembley in 2017 remains one of my most elevated gig experiences.

Levellers!

(seeing them at Shepherd's Bush Empire tonight a mere 32 years after I last saw them at the Newcastle Mayfair - my first ever gig!))

One of the actual-best-bands-on-the-planet Field Music commemorating the 20th anniversary of their debut album at Islington Assembly Hall last night. Absolutely magnificent. Nice Black Country, New Road vibes from Truthpaste as support also.

If you see this, post an album cover with a motor vehicle on it.

Gillian Welch & David Rawlings (with Paul Kowert occasionally on upright bass) at the Palladium last night. Absolutely magnificent show, two sets of timeless songs played exquisitely by superlative, gracious performers.

This 'slow Sunday' programme on 6 Music really is confirming that Gideon Coe is The Best Radio DJ.

Lovely show by Emma Pollock at the Lexington last night. New album Begging For The Night To Take Hold is excellent, in places having a 70s singer-songwriter vibe blended with heavier, more dynamic Delgados-type moments.

Went to see the Kurt Cobain Unplugged exhibition at the Royal College Of Music. A fairly small exhibition but still cool to see Kurt's guitar and cardigan and read the little notes left by fans.
