I had a conversation with Gemini about this quote and it wasn’t encouraging.

Adding The Lessons of History to my “To Read” list.
The Lessons of History

Will and Ariel Durant

Apparently Americans are not exceptional and cannot learn the lessons of history.

“…even though mercy was a key virtue for rulers to display, it destabilizes a society when elites attempt a coup, fail, yet suffer few consequences. That precedent would bear bitter fruit.”

From #Oathbreakers on events in 830 CE—a warning that feels just as relevant in today’s world.

Truly bizarre how the media stopped talking about how shitty and batshit nuts Hegseth, Kash Patel, RFK Jr and Tulsi were since the shitty, batshit nuts Felon 47 started threatening Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal.

STAY FOCUSED. 🤨

Medieval writers used dream visions to criticize rulers through divine prophecy. Inspired by a dream vision about Emperor Louis the Pious (Emperor Charlemagne's son) in #Oathbreakers, I asked ChatGPT to write a modern version. Here's what it came up with:

Our family discovered we are a Mayflower Family a few years back. We are direct descendants of Edward Fuller.
On this day, December 21, 1620: The Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower landed at present-day Plymouth, Massachusetts, shaping the course of American history. #OTD #History

Sewed a chef's apron for my son! He's a cook & it turned out amazing (flaws and all). Third project ever & I'm hooked! Helen's Closet pattern (free), Mood fabric. He looks so good in it! So proud! #sewing #handmade #chefsapron #madewithlove

To me, this pic of the heavy police presence for UH's CEO's accused killer highlights the disparity in handling cases based on the victim's status. It raises questions about equity & law enforcement's role. I'm the son of a retired LEO, but this has me ?ing who they really work for.

Still read it, or listen to it every year.

My favorite versions;

Scrooged is my favorite adaptation.

Millionaires' Row in #Cleveland was home to some of the nation's most powerful & influential industrialists, including Rockefeller. The concentration of wealth was unparalleled, accounts at the time compared it to the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris.

This video uses rice to show the HUGE gap between the rich and the rest of us.

This isn't just about numbers; it's about power. The ultra-rich have SO much influence, they may never care about the average person. #WealthGap #FixTheSystem

It wasn’t about the tax (that had been in place since the 1767 Townsend Revenue Act), it was about the monopoly on tea sales the Tea Act granted the British East India Company to bail them out of debt.
