“Why do You keep so many books?,” they ask me.
“It’s not a “Florida” thing. It’s not a “Texas” thing. It’s a 21 states out of 50 thing. The government wants to dictate to half of this country's states what they can read & what they can think. They want public institutions of democracy & civic engagement to be mouthpieces of government beliefs.”
This week, we learned 21 states are eager to dismantle your First Amendment Rights.

It should be bigger news.

Here's the story, and here's what you can be doing about it. These are YOUR RIGHTS that the states want to steal from you.

A term I'll hang on to from McCracken's A Long Game is "the ventriloquail," for a sentence where a character simultaneously speaks and takes an action that makes speech impossible. ("You look wonderful!" she said, drinking her martini.) Ventriloquails drive me nuts. This is a good shorthand for why.

Long enough ago to argue that the use of fire has shaped human evolution.
Scientists have discovered the oldest evidence of ancient humans igniting fires.

The question of how far back human ancestors conjured fire is deeply intertwined with some of the biggest outstanding mysteries about human evolution.
Scientists discover oldest evidence of human-made fire in a 400,000-year-old hearth
A new archaeological find pushes back the timeline on when humans mastered the ability to make fires, a transformative technology.

Watch the liar's body language.
FBI OPS DIRECTOR: Antifa - that's our primary concern right now. CONGRESS: Where is Antifa headquartered?

FBI: [Pauses]...We are building out the infrastructure right now.

CONGRESS: What does that mean?

FBI: Well, that's very fluid.
