I teach physics. I live in Virginia, USA. I like when people support their assertions with evidence.

It's not a costume so much as it is a Halloween-themed sweater. But still.

I have always wished I could have met Neil Young's dog that was on the album cover "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere".

He looks like he was a great dog.

I also recently finished "Love in the Ruins" by Walker Percy. I think Percy was a wonderfully talented writer, though this story didn't really fit me well. It's a humorous dystopian sci-fi, and I enjoyed how our narrator struggles with whether or not he is an unreliable narrator.

I recently finished "A Walk in the Park" by Kevin Fedarko, but I have to say that I got so angry with his story of his first hiking attempt in the Canyon... I had to be talked into finishing the book.

"He learns and gets better" I was told. And that's true. But what an inept first attempt!

It's been in California since 1885, at least. I've seen the (historically accurate) movie.

I've been hearing about "James" by Percival Everett, so I read it last week. A few years ago I had re-read "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", which I had last read as a boy. It is useful to have read that fairly recently.

I began July with Richard Wright's 1940 novel "Native Son". I went in without knowing what to expect. I'm still not sure how to feel about it. I found it easy to become invested in the main character, but without the predictability that often comes with that feeling.

I will re-read this someday.

In June I realized that I had never read "Uncle Tom's Cabin", so I remedied that. This is one of the most loaded reads in American literature, and I'm not going to be able to say anything that hasn't been said already.

In May I read "The Tombs of Atuan" by Ursula K. Le Guin. This is a sequel to "A Wizard of Earthsea", which I had read last year. These stories are rich and gripping, and I wish I had found Earthsea earlier.

This spring I read "Warrior of the Wind", the sequel to "Son of the Storm", both by Suyi Davies Okungbowa @suyidavies.com.
I found this story to be unpredictable and very well told, and as mentioned previously in this thread, I really like the way the author explains magic in this world.

A question I've always had about this photo of Musk.

Why does it look like it's his first time using hands?

The current design for the state seal of Virginia was originally sculpted for the Commonwealth of Virginia by Charles Keck in 1931, in turn based off the 1776 description authored by George Wythe and George Mason.

This pic is something I saw when I was at lunch. An eight-foot diameter, transparent, water-filled Plexiglass orb.
