We'll have a newborn this COVID/FLU season, and I'll be able to get it since I'm pregnant, but my husband, a HS teacher, and daughter who goes to daycare won't putting the baby at risk! This is frankly absurd, and completely against everything I was taught about public health!

"Each vaccine on the childhood schedule is a triumph of science and medicine over disease"

And thankfully, we have eradicated many diseases WITH vaccines. Do we really want them back? Do we really want to fear more for our children's lives than we already do?
Venting:

I know it's asked completely innocently and I do not begrudge those who ask it, but of all vaccine-related questions I get, the one that really frustrates me is when people ask why children get so many vaccines.

I know this comes from a genuine position of concern- but the framing...

For the record, I would sign up again to get the childhood vaccine schedule in a heart beat. Public health, including vaccines, saves lives!
RFK Jr. thinks that a clinical trial should be done for the entire childhood vaccine schedule. Here’s why that will never happen.

1. You can’t do a randomized trial of something that we already know is safe and effective. There would have to be a placebo group that didn’t get vaxxed. Unethical.

Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.
The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.

Measles cases continue to surge globally, putting millions of children at risk.

More than 10 million people globally were infected with measles in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year.

Same! Joined this weekend, hoping we can find everything we need between Costco and Wegmans

If only we had more storage!
We got a Costco membership for the first time in our lives today. They asked why & I said because treat your workers well, you value diversity, & you didn’t cave in to authoritarian demands. He said: “We’ve been getting lots of folks saying that, thanks for joining.”

Understand this: Elon Musk’s wealth is tied directly to contracts and regulations from the government agencies he now controls.

He spent over $280 million to elect Trump and now he's cashing in — AND they got rid of the inspectors general who could hold him accountable.

Gross corruption.

"I think the strategy here is: ‘Well, we’re just going to do it and dare somebody to stop us, and by the time they stop us, we’ll have destroyed it.’”
“They apparently just sort of walked past security and said: ‘Get out of my way,’ and they’re looking for access for the IT systems, as they have in other agencies,” said a former Noaa official. “They will have access to the entire computer system, a lot of which is confidential information.”

A reminder about the value of preorders: Someone just placed an order for the new Joan Didion book coming out in April. We hadn't heard about it yet and promptly ordered five more for the store.

If there's a book you're excited about, place a preorder! You might help other people find it, too! 💙📚
