There are 2,500+ turbines in the UK: they should be helping bring energy bills down.

Instead, Brits have paid £1,000,000,000 this year switching turbines off while overpaying gas plants to switch on 👉 octo.ps/3KiVhcu

They called missiles ‘Attack-ems’. Did they run a competition at a primary school?

It dawned on me how the world works yesterday. I’ve put my head above the parapet in our small rural area and realised that the council can and will do whatever they like, regardless of facts. Where is a good place to buy land and live off grid? *Must have a nearby bakery with sourdough*

I remember talking about this on our radio show. Sad sad day, and a reminder to avoid processed bread.

Not if local councils only see £££ signs. Unfortunately, in rural communities like ours, which need more visitors and not less, the new tax burden will see closures and put a stop to further investment.
I expect it will also help rural communities deal with visitor influx too, after our experience in the Outer Hebrides and Skye, where clearly the infrastructure is struggling with visitor numbers.
I see the plan is local authorities will decide rate levels? Presumably you can lobby appropriately?

I just watched The Substance. It went quite a lot further than I was expecting and I’ve changed my mind about signing up.

Just wondering what the weather will be like in the US when the democrats aren’t allowed to control it anymore.

Did you expect it to be used to make rural communities uncompetitive and see fragile economies crumble? Or did you just think about Edinburgh?
Last night The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill was passed in Scottish parliament - seeing how busy it is, a nominal fee to go towards infrastructure seems wise www.bbc.com/news/article...
What is Scotland's planned tourist tax and how much will it cost?
MSPs are due to vote on giving councils powers to add an additional charge to accommodation bookings.

You failed to mention the VAT reductions across Europe for accommodation providers. 6-10% VAT compared to 20%. We are in a race to the bottom. Thank you @scottishgreens.bsky.social
Giving councils the power to apply a visitor levy will raise vital funds for local services.

This is already commonplace across Europe and beyond.

@hardingmedia.bsky.social I ❤️ your bio. I actually read it out loud to my husband this morning. So well written!

Dear Argyll & Bute Council, we’re not a tourism body, we’ve never received funding from you, & we haven’t been offered a seat around your table to discuss the implications of a visitor levy. However, we are communicating LOUD AND CLEAR. We can’t afford to add 5%+VAT to prices. Can you hear us?

Had a great couple of days in the paint studio/church. I finally seem to have worked out the issue I was having with high absorbency of the first layer. Still a little way to go but it feels like progress.

The proposed visitor levy in Argyll and Bute will be disastrous for our wee industry. We’re hoping the council see sense! #NoArgyllVisitorLevy
