Trains are not stopping at 12th St. Oakland City Center Station in the Antioch and Richmond directions due to a medical emergency. Trains are able to run through and continue on to 19th Street. Trains in the SF and Berryessa directions are still making stops at 12th Street.

I love Linux.

* Data storage: "flushing" typically means syncing in-memory data to permanent storage, like disk
* Data caching: "flushing" usually means clearing the cache
* Lunux Host Firewall (iptables, netfilter), "flushing" means deleting all the rules & exposing your host to the internet

A preview of some discussions during November conferences:

#KubeCon: I CAN’T BELIEVE PEOPLE STILL USE NFS!
#SC25 #Supercomputing: WOW! NFS is still AWESOME. Vast is THE BOMB! NFS Azure file shares works great!

Some sorta fighter jet flew over Berkeley. I didn't see what direction it went, but I think this might be it? Maybe 3 jets.

Every interaction with AI:

Me: Hello AI Agent, what is my favorite color?
AI: Your favorite color is green
Me: No actually, my favorite color is blue
AI: Perfect! Please continue with blue. Green grass is lovely.
Me: What? No, I said blue.
AI: YOU ARE CORRECT. Thanks for pointing out my mistake

Berkeley cyclist here- use new Bancroft cycletrack weekly. Wrote to city about westbound light @ Bancroft/Shattuck not detecting bikes. City uses AI system called NoTraffic w/ these cameras & is working on bugs. Will be interesting when it works
🚴‍♀️ I believe these are the cameras.

One oddity in the AI experience is the inconsistency in the experience. Gemini on my phone fails ~20% of the time, claiming it can't do something that is clearly within it's scope.

Today, I tried to set an alarm. Two tries, back to back, two different answers.

Ubuntu users like to make fun of the Blue Screen of Death in Windows. But hey, Ubuntu has it's own White Screen of Death.

I have two identical machines. One Windows 10 & other Ubuntu 24.04. Ubuntu crashes more

Linux on servers: Awesome- I run hundreds of them
Linux on desktop: Not quite as awesome

Hey Kubecon folks, want to save $$$ on your Atlanta hotel room? Try searching for rooms with your browser in incognito mode. Some prices were reduced by $30/night, sometimes more. Helped me to find more options under per diem limit.

The Arch wiki is top notch. Good to see this cooperation with Debian.

BTW I used the Arch wiki

Distro's like Ubuntu needs to follow suit. The Ubuntu wiki is full of bad information & harmful to the community.

Apart from the Oakland warehouse fire on E 8th Street, there's another big smoky fire in Alameda? Just drove down 880 S & saw a big smoky fire that definitely wasn't on E 8th.

NERSC just announced that IBM and VAST have been selected as the storage providers for the upcoming Doudna #HPC system. Strong statement since NERSC had long invested in Lustre (scratch) and GPFS (community). Very cool to see NERSC not settling for the status quo.
