ff17 has to have a cool woman with a gun as the protagonist again its been too long. for like a decade if you bought a final fantasy game there was a 50% chance it starred a cool woman with a gun. but square abandoned the true path

Or you could argue that JRPG has become a genre, distinct from ARPG and TacticalRPG, but that the J isn’t strictly geographical but clearly orientalist since it relies on hard to define « Japanese looking » (to us) features.

+some gameplay elements are JRPG, i.e battle/exploration transitions
