Working on a Caves of Qud MTG set, here's the full card list:

Parameters:
Width: 120
Height: 40
Defect chance: 10%
AOE: 3 -> 2

Note that this image appears a bit less noisy than the previous. The decreased area of effect means fewer cells turned white by virtue of being sort of near a clump of white cells.

Parameters:
Width: 120
Height: 40
Defect chance: 5% -> 10%
AOE: 3

This looks pretty similar, but notably more dense. Increasing the defect chance (to a point) will increase the density of white cells. Note that white cells largely still end up in clumps,

"But what does it look like?" I hear you ask. Well here's an example.
Parameters:
Width: 120
Height: 40
Defect chance: 5%
AOE: 3

It produces these clusters that look pretty neat. It kind of looks like some sort of landmass, or maybe the texture of leaves in a tree.

An algorithm runs through the matrix, starting from [0,0] through [0,n], then [1,0] through [1,n], etc. all the way to [m,n]. At each cell, set its color to a randomly selected color inside the AOE by AOE square containing the given cell in its bottom right corner. I made an ms paint image for this.

Another aspect of mh2 supremacy

Before I knew what removal was, when I was playing with m13 deckbuilders toolkits, this card was unbeatable

I made a purple card for my caves of qud mtg set because its april fools day, but the more I look at it the more I like it

Lastly, here's a common removal spell for limited. Heavily inspired by Eyeblight's Ending.

That's all for templar week. Check my profile for 7 barathrumite cards. Next week I'm doing a very different kind of faction

This might be my favorite qud design so far. The rules text is so brief but it encapsulates the idea of a becoming nook so well. Also it seems like it would play in a super interesting way
March 13, 2025 at 7:14 AM
A couple more implanted cards that are more for draft
March 13, 2025 at 7:13 AM
The secondary theme for the templar is Human Typal, this is a currently very overpowered signpost uncommon for the templar. But I think the design resonates very well so I could keep this in at a higher rarity.
March 13, 2025 at 7:12 AM
The main mechanic for the templar is Implants, represented by equipment which have the Implanted keyword, allowing them to enter already equipped to a 2/2 Human Knight.

Implants also have a very steep equip cost, with a much cheap "equip human" cost in order to represent that theyre a truekin thing

Putus templar MTG cards:
Because there is no leader of the putus templar in-game (maybe there is one in lore that idk about), I decided to make the leader a wraith-knight summoned by a phylactery squire.

My first thought was Circling Vultures and Faerie Macabre, then I saw circling vultures was from weatherlight.

New favorite caves of qud MTG design

Lastly, this chromeling was perhaps abandoned in a rust well. You can scrap it for parts, or you can restore it to its former glory or beyond (8/8).

This concludes Barathrumite Week. Next week is the Putus Templar.
March 6, 2025 at 8:11 PM
The secondary mechanic for Barathrumites is Charge Counters, as seen on Sparafucile. Chromelings utilize charge counters with their "overcharged" ability, which lets the charge counters act as +1/+1 counters. (7/8)
March 6, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Sparafucile is a skilled "harm-artisan" who can get a little more juice out of each piece of junk, and turn that into power and toughness (6/8)
March 6, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Although there's no built-in way to identify these cards, they can be identified with a card like Examine. (5/8)
March 6, 2025 at 8:06 PM
But that's not the only way Junk is used. With the "unidentified" mechanic, you can play certain artifacts "unidentified", forgoing their intended purpose to simply use them as junk. (4/8)
March 6, 2025 at 8:05 PM
But how will you get enough artifact tokens to tap and/or sacrifice? Well, Junk tokens from fallout are back. This Barathrumite Arconaut can rummage up some junk whenever they attack. I should note that any flavor text comes directly from the game, none of it was written by me. (3/8)
March 6, 2025 at 8:04 PM
This is their leader (and namesake), Barathrum. He's the leader of a faction of tinkers so of course he needs to have an ability that lets him tinker. But simply putting Tinker on a creature would be too strong, so it's a mix of Tinker and Whir of Invention. (2/8)

My most flavorful qud mtg design yet
March 4, 2025 at 5:20 AM
A couple of Caves of Qud mtg designs based around the mechanic "Unidentified", which allows you to play certain artifacts as Junk tokens which can be scrapped for a card. Kind of like cycling meets morph.
