(Now, on to hand-importing each of our email lists and re-creating our email templates so I can cancel Constant Contact. Sigh.)

But definitely watch the movie if you can--it's definitely still relevant today. Like I said, the only unbelievable thing is that the Nazi thing is a secret.

I highly, highly recommend Rachel Maddow's Ultra podcast--the first season--for a well-researched discussion of this history. It was lost to WWII headlines after the war, but we absolutely had Nazi agents working here in the US openly, and many of them got away with it.

It was in the headlines. The trial didn't happen until 1944, one of the biggest scandals (the judge died in the middle of the trial, each defendants and their lawyers were each and every one a Trumpian circus in the courtroom, etc).

He went to Germany and got an award from Hitler. He was an open member of the America First party and was basically a very high-profile American Brownshirt. It's a compelling mystery movie, but if you know the real story it's inspired by, it was ongoing during these years.

IMO this still demonstrates:

1. These products peddle bullshit and disinformation by design. (Outdated info is still disinfo when pushed this way.)

2. The billionaires who push this product are FINE with this kind of disinfo. Which seems like a right wing impulse to me!

I've been convincingly advised (thanks, @castirony.bsky.social) that this particular bit of "A.i." disinfo is likely due to the model not being updated to reflect current events rather than purposeful deception from the billionaires who control it.
