After 2 solid days of wrestling with this data, I suppose going from 14,000+ skipped lines to 2k-ish is progress?

Just in case you needed a reminder that suggestions from Word and other grammar assistants are usually useless...

One more day until our writing workshop tomorrow! We'll spend the day diving into all the components of worldbuilding, how to choose what YOU need for your worldbuilding, examples of how worldbuilding flows together by expert writers, & more.

Work with a pro editor for a day! Less than a week until my writing workshop in which we'll dive deep into worldbuilding--whether you're writing science fiction and fantasy or any kind of long-form narrative fiction or nonfiction.

It took me FAR too long to figure out how to do a custom HTML block on my website, but I finally figured it out today! Now my ancient website (originally designed in like 2007? 2008?) looks modern and sleek and even embeds a little preview of @curiouscatbookshop.bsky.social's podcast!

If you haven't already heard, or perhaps read today's PW Children's Bookshelf, which simply described me as "leaving" L&L, I was laid off last week.

I know what themes are. They all end up looking like this for some reason.

I've been using WordPress since like 2005, but the problem is that my old template is outdated (not mobile optimized) and all the new ones, despite looking so nice as samples, end up looking like this. I don't get it!

What would I do differently if started my bookstore all over again? I have a few thoughts on that! A new episode of The Curious Cat Bookshop Podcast is up, looking back at the last 3 years as I prepared and it. (CORRECTED LINK)

New arrivals = the best excuse to rearrange your TBR pile. Again!

Congratulations to Guadalupe Garcia McCall, whose Fall of the Fireflies (coming this fall) just got a starred review from Kirkus! Set in the same world as her bestselling Summer of the Mariposas, this new book stars twins Delia and Velia as they are recruited by the gods to become monster hunters!

I've had such a great week talking with everyone at Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers, and seeing old friends and everything, but it is also really, really great to be home at last. I missed my kitties! Here's Seven, one of my fosters.

Generation Queer by @kimmtopping.bsky.social & illustrated by Anshika Khullar is out today, and just got a starred review from Publishers Weekly, along with many really wonderful reviews from others! Also, if you missed it, The Reel Wish got four starred reviews!

A fun little progression of my ornamental cherry tree blooming this week.

Well, it's probably definitely time for me to update my website, but all the themes I have currently installed are really outdated, and everything else is so different from my current theme that it I'd probably spend weeks redoing the text/customizing.

Oh, hey, yesterday was 15 years. I've now published so many books I couldn't fit them all in one selfie!

Sadly, I got the glare on the cover of The Reel Wish by @yamilesmendez.bsky.social. Two starred reviews!

Better, almost, because they won't bite you when you dress them up.

At my congresswoman's town hall. Please, please let your reps and senators know that you are holding them accountable.

Weird glitch happening on @bookriot.bsky.social tonight: I can't seem to get ads to not cover the copy on the page (no way to dismiss them). I love Bookshop, but I'd like to read the article.

It definitely works better when they get that they can sit BEHIND the computer. (Juju is generally great about this. Jiji, on the other hand...)

If you're local to me in NW CT, this is my bookstore, and we're doing this every Friday night. I'll get it up on the bookstore's website asap. It's just ... been a hard couple of weeks.

I have no idea what Juju has against nail clippers, but it just occurred to me that if I pick them up, she'll run away and I can drink my hot chocolate in peace without her trying to steal marshmallows.

This is Juju.
