Did you see the new research in @stacksjournal.bsky.social that revealed pine martens and sables in Siberia may be hybridizing far more often than we thought?

Using DNA microsatellites, researchers found that nearly 20% of individuals were actually hybrids. 🦊🌍🧪🧬

A new study experiments with a low-cost way to monitor den-box use by martens & fishers – temperature loggers.

By analyzing the rate of temperature change, researchers correctly identified every fisher and marten den visit—and even distinguished the two species! 🦊🌍🧪

When I started @StacksJournal.bsky.social, I thought the hardest part would be building a modern #PeerReview platform.

Turns out, it's when you're slowly gaining traction.

Some days it's overwhelming. Other days, a researcher says, "We need this so badly." It all keeps me going.

The pine marten, fisher, wolverine, & similar species are facing more than habitat loss — they also occupy environments threatened by climate change.

New peer-reviewed research in @stacksjournal.bsky.social assesses the future of the Guloninae across the globe — and the outlook is rough. 🦊🌍🧪

💡 What if monitoring wildlife was automatic and could even differentiate among species?

New research in @StacksJournal.bsky.social shows a novel idea: using the rate of temperature change in den boxes to track martens, fishers, and even sometimes squirrels. 🌍🧪🦊

In the Ural forests, it may be harder than you think.

New #fisher research in BC reveals there is a distinct population—morphologically, ecologically, & evolutionarily.

Does this mean the long-suspected subspecies is finally confirmed?

New research from @richweir.bsky.social and the Martes Working Group asked this important question. 🌎🧪🦊

We desperately need innovation in #ScientificPublishing.

That’s why we created our new model of double-blind collaborative #peerreview to be transparent, credible, and fair.

Reviewers are even calling it fun & refreshing — 2 words I don’t think anyone has ever said about peer review.

🧪
We need new ways to share scientific knowledge, especially as the current ones crumble and exclude more than 50% of good research.

But it's imperative that as we build the future of #PeerReview and #ScientificPublishing, we make things more fair, transparent, and inclusive.

Did you know 50-70% of credible science is never published? We're missing out on a lot of information!

One of our goals is to make it easier to peer review & publish datasets, small studies, & negative results.

We all deserve to make an impact with our findings, regardless of how splashy they are.
So much science is being deleted & forgotten. It's time for drastic action.

We need a scientific 2-pager because:
- Length≄Credibility
- Strengthening peer review > Removing it
- The academic article is outdated

Let’s publish our research before it’s too late.

Scholarly publishing should be a platform for all credible science to be easily peer-reviewed & added to the public domain without censorship.

That's why we signed the Declaration to Defend Research Against Government Censorship.

Science is too important.

Open and transparent peer review should be the norm in #ScientificPublishing. It increases trust in the peer review process and in the published literature.

Our collaborative peer review is double-blind to focus on the science, but then transparent upon publication.

The best of both worlds!
"The present and future of peer review: Ideas, interventions, and evidence" is an interesting look at the state of #ScientificPublishing.

One of their big takeaways? We need Open and Transparent Peer Review.

I completely agree. What else do we need in #SciPub 2.0?

Three years ago I went on a desert hike that changed my life.

I'm a wildlife researcher and was growing frustrated with #ScientificPublishing.

But on this hike, I had an idea to make scientific publishing more collaborative, fair, & transparent. It was time for a change. 🧪 #AcademicSky

It’s time to make all #peerreview double-blind. It reduces bias and lets the science speak for itself.

We use it, but how many other journals do? Less than 10%.
