On Alaska’s Prince of Wales Island, gray wolves have been observed hunting sea otters, a rare and surprising behavior.

Researchers are now working to learn more about how these wolves are adapting to marine prey, using methods such as wolf teeth analysis and trail cameras. Read more: bit.ly/4qofVsr

One of the challenges to red wolf recovery is misinformation, especially the belief that people don’t want them back. But new research tells a different story: people living where red wolves once roamed support their return and recognize their ecological and societal value. Read more: bit.ly/3JoPlyF

Reposting an interesting paper. We also ran into this using isotopes to assess coyote diets. We found a canopy effect on d13C values indicating enrichment was influenced more by land cover features and less by use of human foods. Agricultural cover influenced d15N values.
