My afterschool program students have a joke: “Louise writes in 2 languages: English (a.k.a print) & cursive.” I show them both. They’d erase the print & figure out the cursive like it’s a riddle. I write in cursive cause I went to Catholic school in the PH where it was the only handwriting allowed.

Another book that I would give my friend’s children is The ABCs of Inclusion. Written by Beth Leipholtz whose son Cooper is deaf. (My friend’s middle child is also a Cooper!) This book introduces readers to 26 differently abled kids.

My other fave is Letter P! The book is a visual feast. This is the first time I’ve purchased the 30th Anniversary Edition. Highly recommended AND please get it from @bookshop.org to support indie bookstores!!!

My friend has 3 boys. She & her husband take turns reading w/ them every night. So books are always a good idea. For the holidays, I’m giving them Animalia by Graeme Base, a picture book that helps kids develop their vocabs. I’ve given this to many mom friends over the years! My fave is Letter C!

October is special. This month three years ago would have been my last had I not dodged a terminal diagnosis ten months earlier. Crazy but also a reminder that we’re all just a diagnosis away from a completely different future.

Uhm, Catholic school! I was policed and always reprimanded whenever I would write in print. Cursive stuck. Print is hard for me tbh. Lol the second was my attempt at print.
