Weekly jobs 🧵
We are starting to get a decent picture of how the jobs year started. We are tracking around 30,000 below last year's job numbers (pretty close to 2023 levels). That's despite an increase of around 35,000 in the working-age population. [1/n]

Here's total earnings adjusted for population and inflation. We got used to things getting better until something hit in 2020.

Central Govt share of consumption hovering at 2014/15 levels.
We are wasting 22% of the country's resources on our common needs #NZPol. Too many nurses on wards, teachers falling over each other in schools, care workers taking time to talk to old folk, empty super-ferries in the strait 😡 [🧵1/n]

Monetary policy in action... interest payments to banks last year hit 10% of GDP (that's 25% of total NZ wages).
Remember, we tackle inflation by adding costs to business and moving money quickly from workers to older savers and bank equity holders (mostly Aussie banks). This is the way #NZPol.
