Your periodic reminder that NESOs Future Network Design (grid plans) are to export Scotlands renewable energy south to power England via multiple huge (2GW) subsea interconnectors

It’s ‘Grid baby Grid’ across the Scottish construction sector at the moment….sigh

Before & After

Busy afternoon clearing the plot with a fellow Trustee, getting ready to build some affordable, community led homes for our community

It’s feels a long way from the initial meet up in April 2022 when we felt we had to just try to build some homes

It’s been a steep learning curve

Yet again I thank the @snp.org that I live in Scotland

Beware voters in Scotland no matter what Labour say we can’t trust them on this

A Labour government in Scotland would have to make sure we were the same as England & introduce tuition fees again in Scotland

Look at what Starmer promised 👇

Always interesting reading sone the ideas around how we can deliver things if we become independent

Particularly interesting Scotland could set up Enterprise Foundations like Denmark. Hadn’t heard about these before

Assuming alongside Cooperatives, SMEs etc

It’s excellent a proper patisserie

My walk there (it’s my local patch) diverts up old paths in the oak woods above Tenandry Church. So up the zig-zag path to Creag na h-Uamha and the ruined settlement then loops down. Much quieter and great views

Here most folk have chainsaws

At 8am there were 5 trees across the road to Aberfeldy, I stopped to help clear one. The others we could get past. A few guys were up a tree removing a hanging branch but waved us past

By 9.30am on the way back, all the trees were cleared…got to ❤️ rural Scotland

Power is off so it’s candles out and a game of Catan

Currently 133 power cuts across Scotland in the SSEN area (north of the central belt).

Stay safe folks

Was looking at the turbine blades as they sat on the ground ahead of lifting yesterday

These turbines are (like most being built onshore now) 220m tip height

The tip of each blade is dimpled like a golf ball to reduce drag & the serrated rear edge is for noise reduction

Blade length about 80m

SEPA Water Quality Monitoring data from 2023 under WFD - 87% of waterbodies are classed as good or better

England the EA has a 3-yearly sampling program (nothing like keeping on top of monitoring 🙈) the ‘latest’ data I can find is from 2019 (???) - it’s only 16% of rivers are good 0% are high

Last week we went back to where I grew up in south Devon.

Because we passed it, we decided to pop in to Buckfast Abbey, where the Benedictine monks brew Buckfast Tonic Wine

‘Buckie’ is notorious in Scotland.

it’s cited in huge numbers of violent crimes by Police Scotland.

Installed renewable capacity in Scotland is up to 17.7 GW compared to 15.5 GW a year ago

10.9 TWh of renewable electricity was generated Q1 2025

There are 951 renewable energy projects, with an est capacity of 70.7 GW in the pipeline
The largest contributor to this is battery storage 23.9 GW

Always good to see the woodland regeneration happening in Glen Tromie last weekend

This could be happening across Scotland, no deer fencing/tree tubes all it takes is a reduction in deer numbers

Not a huge fan of big landowners, but chapeau to Wildland Cairngorms Connect showing what’s possible

How accurate do you think the Common Good Registers are

PKC has three Common Good properties in Kinross listed

Your post reminded me to look up Aberfeldy, but I’ve only lived here 20 years so I’m not 100% on what the local memory has as the Common Good

Anyone interested in their local river level data in Scotland, SEPA have live information from their gaging stations

You can also access the historic data from a link (well data from 1950s)

Our local one on the Tay is low but hasn’t reached the record low…yet

‘The annual figures released show that child poverty is rising in England. In fact, the only place across the UK where child poverty has fallen in the last decade is Scotland.’

Why because people still care

Yes definitely push back from big renewables developers in Scotland against zonal pricing

As a highland dwelling consumer I’m definitely in favour, assuming there are notable drops in electricity bills here to reflect the difference between our installed capacity vs the tiny amount we use

Off up biking can see Beinn Mhòr just about to be obscured by cloud about 44 miles away across Strath Tay

It’s been glorious this past few weeks in the bit of the Highlands I’m in. Classic April/May/June weather.

When folk talk about visiting Scotland in August, I try vainly to suggest Spring as the best time

My kids birthdays, one in April is always ☀️ eldest in August 🌧️ rains (+ the midges)
