So we get to French passport control. “You live in Vejer?” asks the guard. We reply yes thinking this is border questioning. “I’m from Cadiz” he responds. Then follows a 5 min chat about vejer restaurants much the annoyance of the queue behind.

The black line between the chimneys and the top two windows is entirely resting crag martins, there are also hundreds in the air on our side of the valley

Today has been amongst the very best days of our 8 years in Vejer. Cloudless sky with stunning views down to Morocco across the silver straits. Barely a breath of wind. Really close encounters with vultures, crag martins and a 50 plus kettle of ravens (never experienced before).

The bunting is up, preparations have been made for the most important and exciting event of the year. Yes this Sunday is International Pork Fat Day!

We used to see Wheatears as our first spring migrants on the N Yorks coast. Now we mainly see them on the autumn return journey.
