Moored narrowboats dream in the hush of a winter canal,
their hulls soft-mirrored in water still as held breath.
Bare branches lean close, whispering old towpath secrets.

Whatever else you think of him, I don't think he is insincere about this stuff, and it should be recognized as extraordinary that he, Pritzker, and other governors are talking about the federal government in these terms. It's not normal political rhetoric, it's the language of existential emergency.
Newsom: "I fear that we will not have an election in 2028 -- I really mean that in the core of my soul -- unless we wake up to the code red, what's happening in this country, and we wake up soberly to how serious this moment is."

After so many shameful low points from him and for our country, this one is uniquely embarrassing and dangerous for all Americans.

This is no way to speak to anyone. Especially not to an audience of world leaders who are guests of our nation and our great city of New York.

Prominent figures in the US and UK deliberately talk down our country, and in particular, our capital city. Yet the latest evidence is clear: a record number of US citizens are now applying for citizenship in the UK.

For many Americans I speak with, it’s because of our values.

Silk dress, British, 1830

This is pretty awesome, and there's something about the cut and pattern that makes me think of Vivienne Westwood. Has a very contemporary look despite being nearly 200 years old.

RESULT: Democrats have defended a state Senate seat in Rhode Island by a margin of 82% to 16%. So that's a victory by 66 percentage points.

Harris had carried this district by 11 percentage points in November. This is the 2nd biggest overperformance for Democrats so far this year.

During the Cold War, there was a cottage industry in the US dedicated to trying to figure out what the real numbers were behind the Iron Curtain because everything the governments put out was fake and I hope some of that infrastructure still exists because we now need it for our own government.
