Finishing my first Sharpe novel at my age is like going a lifetime without a hamburger

Human filmmakers had got their comeuppance. They got it three times filled and running over. But those who had so longed for it were not there to see it, they never knew it. Those who were still living had forgotten all about it and all about them.

Some days you peak at the news and be like, "Reality rejected! Banishment this world!" #lovechunibyoandotherdelusions

RFK Jr. looks like The Thing cronenberged with Stretch Armstrong and then swam a marathon in an Olympic sized pool of spray tan before face-planting onto a waffle iron. And he's the one who plans to "make America healthy again"?

It occurs to me that Chuck Schumer's obsession with "The Baileys" is riffing on The Real Majority, a 1970 book that imagined a Middle American "average voter" who could be wooed away from Democrats by Republicans exploiting cultural "wedge issues." Which says a lot about Schumer's mindset tbh.

Might fall down the local history wormhole again, researching a hometown teacher's role in setting up Japanese missionary schools during the Meiji era. If only I had the time for research...

I'm not on here much because reality has hollowed me out. So hard to stay perpetually angry at The World when I have enough stress in my day-to-day life.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but it's hard to read about late Tsarist Russia and *not* be one. When, for instance, the guy who shot Pyotr Stolypin was a known-double agent of the Okhrana, who warned his handlers that his terrorist cell was plotting Stolypin's death, and they did nothing to stop it.

I should create a handy flow chart of the shows/movies/literature that influenced The X-Files. Some are obvious (Silence of the Lambs, Kolchak the Night Stalker, All the President's Men, the various Quatermass serials), others less so (episodes inspired by The Narrow Margin and D.O.A.).

Watching the "mainstream" media cravenly subjugate themselves to Trump is nauseating.

Bad Day at Black Rock has a horrifying scene where Ernest Borgnine dumps ketchup in Spencer Tracy’s chili. I really hope this isn’t a thing that happens

I'm not sure how much I'm going to use Bluesky. Didn't much like Twitter even before Muskrat bought it. But there are some cool people here, so maybe I'll give it a shot.
