The folks at Covid 19 resources canada have in the past shown graphs comparing the effectiveness of the different types of masks and the risk of infection based on duraiton of exposure. I don't see anything on their website at the moment, but maybe I'm missing it.

Not exactly *useless* but definitely extremely ineffective. Like around 20-30% reduction in infection. It's better than no respirator/mask.
But N95, or KN95 are vast amounts better.
