Incidentally, the blue speckled d20 on the left edge of the pic is known as Speckled Jim and actually is lucky, but only when I'm GMing. I roll him when I don't feel like my players' characters have suffered enough crits!

Sometimes players don't actually want to go first! Here's a house rule:
If you roll a natural 20 on initiative, you can insert yourself anywhere in the initiative order during the first round. If you want, one allied creature gets to replace their roll with a 20.
