Anyone who's ever paid attention to gamer communities knows that budgeting a game based on the ability to generate content with AI will be fraught at best.

Players will call a game an "asset flip" for using a single pre-existing prop. They value games based on the perceived people hours.

People are always encouraging me to make investments. They’re always saying to ignore short term volatility and look at the long term trends.

Right now, if you could put America’s soul on a graph, it would look like the side of kindness, compassion, and truth is in freefall.

So much of what we as creatives want to do is mired in draconian copyright laws, but AI gets it all for free.

Okay.

Played with some Polaroid film this evening that expired forty years ago. It took a dozen attempts to get two decent exposures. #analog #polaroid

“You have to start using LLMs to make games now or you’ll get left behind!”

Counterpoint: in a future where anyone can type “awesome FPS game” into a box, it won’t matter who was an early adopter.

So, the hippies were probably incorrect that all conflicts around the world could evaporate in a single moment of raised consciousness.

But

They were correct that peace, love, and coexistence are possible. And they were correct that the barriers to those things are contrivances of society.

Don Norman says (and I’m paraphrasing) that engineers solve problems, but designers identify what the real problem is. The difficulty with tech #audio folks is that we have to do both. And part of growth in our craft means learning to resist our amazingly cool solutions to the wrong problems.

There's a neat company called Make Sunsets that makes clouds of Sulfur Dioxide to offset the warming effects of man-made #climatechange. 5 dollars offsets the effect of 1 ton of CO2

And the fun part is that if you sponsor a payload, you get to see it launched! Here's mine: x.com/MakeSunsets/...

Every social media site now has some version of youtube’s “click the bell” because they all went for algorithmic feeds. But lo and be-flippin-hold, people like seeing stuff from who they follow. So now we have a second layer of following to make up for the fact that the first one got ruined.

I was reflecting today on what a massive conceptual leap it was from the world of music to the world of game design. Game design aims to produce systems that are immediately graspable on intuition, whereas…

If everything we made turned out exactly as we imagined, there wouldn't be any need to make it, we could just imagine it and that would be enough.

One of the most amazing things about 3D printing is that there's almost no nostalgia whatsoever for the old ones

For any other technology on earth, you can find a community of people who restore and futz with them

For 3D printers, everyone basically agrees they were horrible until a few years ago

This is something I composed for a project a long time ago, it remains one of my favorite things I've ever done in spite of some naive mixing and overwhelming quirkiness
