You should be on the next season of true detective

This would be like sportswriters talking about how much one utility infielder makes and saying things like, “You could fund a whole newspaper with that.”

Yes, nobody cares.

The market has spoken.

Man, $160 for a camp table sounds like a lot of money, even if it super useful.

But $120?

Practically a bargain.

Why, America, have you made me this way?

I feel like a good camping philosophy is to not have a lot of gear, but to have the best and most useful stuff you can find … and to get two of them in case some jerk steals one from your campsite (which hasn’t happened to me yet.)

You’re on your own as naked as the day you were born armed only with your accumulated education and experience; you’re representing your entire readership but make no mistake, you are alone. Your editors? They cannot help or save you. And neither will your direct competitors. In any circumstance.

In the first or second month as a foreign big league beat writer, when a big league manager took exception to a question I asked and dropped several F and MF bombs on me, my more experienced colleagues didn’t say “take it easy, pal.”

That’s not what happens in press conferences or briefing rooms

If you’re going to reply to this with some version of “But Olivia Nuzzi,” give me a break. I’m not in her tax bracket; I’m a real journalist with real wold problems

I’ve made this case many times before: the founding fathers protected freedom of the press when none of those people printing news were college graduates trained in ethics or morals. Today’s journalists are exponentially more professional, ethical, moral than their historical counterparts.

Everyone upset that the president called someone piggy or ugly has missed the point and lost the plot

He called an entire profession of people — who do nothing more than live their lives trying to inform you — your enemy.

And not enough of you stood up to say that’s absolutely not the case.

Folks, the president calls the press the enemy of the people. YOU should be standing up for the press every day, not just when Trump insults somebody in the briefing room.

If you did, we would not have a country where somebody like the current president could be elected.
