All the people who post about things they would listen to or read or watch on a desert island should maybe go outside more??

You’ll be doing a lot of hiking and palm frond weaving and fishing and crabbing and you’ll have no time for the collected works of AA Milne

If you’re an academic posting about how it sucks that football coaches make way more $$ than you, there’s a reason football stadiums are way more full than your lecture halls.

I just moved.

I have no actual furniture.

I really had no need for another camp table.

But Black Friday worked its magic on me.
I love camping gear, and if you're in the market for a camp table, my favorite one is 25 percent off at Dick’s sporting goods!! Get this thing ... it holds 100 lbs and breaks down into a little CD case. Whoever engineered this thing should be a NASA genius if they aren't already.

After less than three weeks in Portland I’ve made the executive decision that Portland residents are called Portholes. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I think some of you forgot what happened when a Univision journalist tried to stand his ground. He got dragged out by a thug.

CNN didn’t defend him.

Just read this article.

But in the collective amnesia memory of America, being called piggy is worse

Jorge Ramos, the Univision anchor and journalist, extensively squabbled with Trump twice in testy exchanges at a news conference before his rally.

When I was 26 years old, a stranger in a strange land — Canada — I had to fight for my legitimacy EVERY SINGLE DAY as an internet reporter competing against newspapers. Even though I worked for the league’s official website … I had to prove over and above that I belonged there.

I take way more offense to being called your enemy than I do to being called piggy or ugly, for the record
Everyone upset that the president called someone piggy or ugly has missed the point and lost the plot

He called an entire profession of people — who do nothing more than live their lives trying to inform you — your enemy.

And not enough of you stood up to say that’s absolutely not the case.

Everybody in the country: Why don’t these reporters stand up in defense of their colleagues in the briefing room?

Also everybody in the country: not subscribing to newspapers, arguing in the comments section of an article they haven’t read, assuming the author is biased or incompetent

Three things about this picture:

(1) my dog is adorable

(2) this hallway is hotel-y or otherwise reminiscent of The Shining

(3) I’m the only apartment in the hall with a welcome mat and it says So Whatcha Whatcha Whatcha Want

I just want to talk a little bit more about this woman, because outside of the caymans you might not know who she was.

Carol had a whole life before she became a reporter.

I think she was a librarian or a teacher; when I met her she was well established as the grand dame of grand cayman courts
I’m nothing but a humble sportswriter … when I worked in the Cayman Islands, our legend of a courts reporter — Carol Winker — got sick and couldn’t goto court on a daily basis.

She took me under her wing because she respected me and knew I cared about getting the job right.

I didn’t have to ask.

I’m a NYer and I’m well aware we have a well deserved reputation for complaining about things but I’m here to tell you that if you want a good bagel in Portland, you can find one at Bernstein’s Bagels!!!

Feel free to answer Kat.

She’s waiting.
Epstein was at Harvard 40 times AFTER he was released from jail for child sex abuse?!?
Where’s cancel culture when it’s actually needed? I’ll wait.
“The review found that Harvard in 2005 admitted Mr. Epstein as a visiting fellow in the psychology department and readmitted him the following year. And the review concluded “it is likely” that Mr. Epstein visited Harvard more than 40 times after his release from jail, between 2010 and 2018.”

BRO.

NYer bull in a china shop:

I went to one of the best bagel bakeries in Portland, and they were out of everything except poppi and salt by 12:30.

Q: “How early do I have to be here to get an everything bagel?”

Earnest but perplexed Portland clerk: “About 8 am? Anything after that is crapshoot.”

The first question people ask when they find out you’re an Oregon transplant is, “Why did you choose Oregon?”

Cause it’s an awesome place with affordable cities, incredible hiking, beautiful nature & reasonably temperate but real definable seasons?

Better question: Why didn’t I move here earlier?

Had my first great hike in Portland, 900 feet of elevation and 2.5 miles to the best view of town, then down 2.5 miles for two beers and two slices of pizza at a bar named after my favorite novel. Oregon, we’re gonna be great friends.
