EAST TN/KY LOW SEVERE RISK TONIGHT: There may be a few strong/severe storms tonight into tomorrow morning, mainly northwest of Knoxville where there is a marginal risk for hail or wind.
A low-end tornado risk is possible back toward middle TN. I’ll post a video update with more info later today.

The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH Friday morning through Saturday morning for a potential 3-7 inches of snow across east TN and southeast KY. ❄️❄️❄️

FREEZING RAIN, RAIN OR SNOW?
A brief period of sleet or freezing rain is most likely Sunday because of a warm layer aloft (above 32°) which we call the melting layer.
It will likely change over to snow showers Monday because the air will be below 32° all the way up through the atmosphere.

We may have a shallow layer of cold air in place with temperatures around freezing or just below as precipitation comes in Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. That would allow for a period of freezing rain in parts of east TN. This is developing still…more updates ahead.

PIPE-BURSTING COLD! The long range data is still very consistent with a true arctic blast between the 8th and 14th. Some areas could go below zero by the 10th or 11th. 🧊🧊🧊

Here comes another shot of snow for the higher elevations of the Smokies and the Cumberland Plateau tomorrow into Sat morning. A dusting to an inch or two within some of those locations. Just a cold shower or flurry in Knoxville.
