When someone dies of the flu and you say “what pre existing conditions did they have?”….you’re saying the chronically ill are expendable.

When you say “only the sick & elderly die of the flu”… you’re saying they’re expendable.

We are not expendable.

If you know a disabled or elderly person who’s living alone and/or in an unsafe situation… check on them.

Reach out just to say “hey someone is thinking about you”

Especially if there’s extreme weather or any kind of emergency - we need to make sure people aren’t forgotten

Here is a thread of California animal welfare orgs who need donations to help deal with the wildfire crisis (but they VERY DESPERATELY need adopters and foster homes too if you live close enough to help in that way):

There’s finally an update on the BC teen who was hospitalized with bird flu.

It appears she survived - but at the tender age of 13 had to endure intubation, ECMO and a lengthy ICU stay.

H5N1 isn’t “mild” and it can be worse in children. We should be preparing (the source was never identified)

According to the case summary, the patient was a 13-year-old girl with a history of mild asthma who first reported to a hospital on Nov. 4.

The sky just exploded with colour above our Shetland house. One of the best displays I've seen. Many colours visible to the naked eye and it was dancing and flowing and changing constantly. Breathtaking! #AuroraBorealis #NorthLights #MirrieDancers #Shetland

100 years ago today, #OTD in 1925, Edwin Hubble announced that Andromeda and other spiral nebulae were definitely separate galaxies outside the Milky Way, in a paper read to an AAS meeting by H.N. Russell.

There was no doubt that the Universe was more than just our little island of stars. 🧪 🔭 ⚛️

Here’s something to think about as you kick off 2025: ✨We are all stardust.✨

Every atom of oxygen in our lungs, of carbon in our muscles, of calcium in our bones, of iron in our blood—was created inside a star before Earth was born.

In 2025, stop worrying about what counts and doesn’t count and just read it all! Physical books, e-books, audiobooks, manga, comics, web novels, fiction, non-fiction, fan-fiction, all of it! Reading is reading and it’s all out there just waiting for you!

It’s New Years so we will be spammed with wellness posts.

Posts about how to make 2025 the “healthiest year ever!” Posts to make you feel bad if you’re chronically ill. To make you feel it’s your fault.

Remember that wellness and chronic illness are not mutually exclusive.

It does indeed🫠

Disabled Canadian veteran needed a wheelchair lift for her home.

While pleading with veteran’s affairs - she was told “if it’s really that bad and you’re desperate we can assist you to die.”

She didn’t want to die. She needed a reasonable assistive device. She needed accommodation:

A disabled person wears a mask to the hospital - they’re accused of having covid anxiety.

By the same HCWs who then dismiss them and say things like “what do you want US to do? You’re sick”.

When there’s no care or treatment available - you safeguard whatever is left of your health at all costs.

Mom saw someone at the pharmacy who had RSV. The lady was masking, thank goodness. If only more people would mask when sick! We’d have much less illness in the world if people would do something so simple. Community care means wearing a mask!
