Fond of fabulous frocks and all things glamorous
Dear fellow crocheters 🧶

I've just spent some experimenting with some crocheted ribbing.

The question is, why would you?

They are all insanely fiddly and only one actually provides the stretch that is the whole point of a ribbed cuff. That's the slip st one and... my life is too short

I've been so busy battling invading laurel, leaves and weeds in pouring rain that i haven't really been taking in the Sara Cox challenge for Children in Need. Obvs we all know that an average of 30 miles a day sustained over 5 days and some challenging hills is quite a deed. But... (continue below)

I've been off here all day until now.

Has anything happened other than US sport and politics?

I'm going to start reading my very grown-up non fiction book. It will tell me THINGS. In a grown up factual way.

(I shall probably get bored because although the subject is fascinating, I need a bit of imagination and flights of fancy. Intelligent, factual sorts don't do flights of fancy 🥹)

Today in between lots of homemade cake, me and work bestie raked all the leaves off a long windy path through the woods, pulled out the weeds, fetched woodchip off a pile from the top of the woods, and then dumped it on the path and raked it level. It was raining hard and I loved it.

That's my job

The writer's frustration is palpable. It's a beautifully written letter and I hope attention is paid to it by the programme makers.

I haven't watched it, despite my enthusiasm for yarn craft, because I suspected I would find it annoying and frustrating, but this example exceeds those expectations
An intelligent, interesting piece raising a number of interesting points about fibre arts in general and local traditions in particular 🧶

Washing your hair IS chore. If it simply involved getting it wet, lathering some shampoo in and rinsing, it wouldn't be. But washing hair is so much more than that. And then there's the drying which is a whole other chore
I need to go and wash my hair, a chore I’ve been putting off for the past two days. I don’t know why I think it’s such a chore but there you have it. I’ll be back in a bit. Meanwhile I hope you have something pleasant in your day.

Today's reward for doing the double of cleaning showers AND toilets was to be let loose with loppers to wreak savage revenge on invasive laurel in our woodland.

That's my job

I've just been going back through former BBC DGs. There seems to be a distinct pattern of resigning because of breaking broadcasting code/broadcasting misconduct. None of them this century have just retired or moved on to other jobs.

It doesn't bode well for the integrity of a new incumbent

The real Amber doesn't endear herself by banging on about stepping in at 24 hrs notice

Never very keen on a disco salsa

The judges have NO idea how to judge this

Having lost my own dearly loved mum last year I sympathise and empathise with Balvinder but it makes me feel uncomfortable that she's using it as a backstory to her couple's choice. I know she's not the only one whonuses emotion to sell their couples choice, but I'd like it to stop

I always want Aljaz's foxtrots to go well because he loves it at least as much as I do, but I feel that could have gone better

Alwx is such a luvvie 😍

Both tunes a bit sticky for a charelston. Would loved to have seen Kaz dance that to a more charleston rhythm tune
November 8, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Omg. This tune is impossible for a charleston
November 8, 2025 at 6:43 PM
I'd have preferred it to be a salsa to this tune. Cha cha cha is too stiff.

It was good though

I just spent an awful lot of money (birthday gift) on a posh Lancombe lipstick. I'm as chuffed as a very happy dog with two tails. It's the perfect colour and formula and it has beautiful packaging/mechanism that you just don't get on more run of the mill makes. It was worth the splurge for the joy

A wet owl is a sight to behold. Tiny head really...

Corridor don't need a feather head dress to hide the true size of their heads. It's all brain
You've got to hand it to owls, really. Every other bird species goes for a really long face, owls go "Nah, wide as possible!" and now everyone thinks they're the smartest.

Meanwhile corvids are all like "Old moonhead is 'the clever one'? What the hell, guys!"

My take away from Traitors is that Nick is the sweetest man ever but is prone to second guessing and doubting himself, and that Alan Carr is actually quite sly, devious and at times, a bit vicious. I didn't buy those tears for one minute. He loved every second
November 6, 2025 at 10:29 PM
Probably in a minority but how the final of Traitors played out made me really annoyed. I was havering over whether to watch at all and I kind of wish I hadn't now. I am now accepting its just not my cup of tea and I don't have to watch it ever again.

Oh well

This account smells of sophistication
This account smells of wet dog; soft as cashmere cat fur; chicken shit; warm eggs; hot porridge; scones just out of the oven with homemade butter; books; washing off the line and freshly dug loamy soil. And red lipstick.
This account smells like: a gentle perfume; candles; newly mown grass; roast potatoes; soft kitty fur; freshly baked bread; books; oil paints and coffee beans.

Today I counted crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. Then I was door person and bar person for our music night. After the official gig and all but staff had gone home the various bands and musicians (inc our manager) got together and jammed. It was incredible (video file too big to post)

That's my job
