During my time in the states I ran into the problem of that old joke "I finally quit drinking for good -- now I drink for evil"
Like in Taiwan I'd had jobs I hated before but I had never been drinking to make the bad times tolerable, only the good times better. In the US it was the opposite.

For sure. Do a read through. Post through it. There's some value in that. I recall a very funny read through of the Sword of Truth books that was posted to the SomethingAwful forums, I think they could be valuable in that way.

Every page is awash with the desire to be taken seriously. Rowling had never been a *good* writer but when you strip away the sleibbles and grobbits and other nonsensical Hocus pocus what's left is a very poor skeleton. The boggarts are *load-bearing*

In that regard, the way to understand what happened to her is less even that she is an authentic transphobe, and more that she blindly latched on to a "big important political issue" so she could promote her awful sub-pulp airport-level trash novels and become a serious big girl writer.

It's worth understanding that she does not want to be famous for writing hocus pocus nonsense books for kids. She wants to be famous for her incredibly boring and terrible "political thrillers" like a real adult person who could be respected by adults who don't know what a "bogwump" is.

Democrats never had strong feeling about trans issues. They were not trans people's side because of core beliefs that align with trans people, they were on the side of trans people because they thought it polled well. Now they think it doesn't, so we're watching a very predictable thing happen.

Most importantly, we all must never forget that we're a complex of individual life forms that have agreed to work together to approximate a single gestalt, but that is a deal that is in no way binding. They can quit at any time or work towards their own dark purposes if they wish.
