It's important to note that Disney chose a young director with no critical or financial successes to his name so that they could more easily bully him into doing their corporate bidding. I assume that at least once during filming they told him to get on program or get out.

There's a large dog-sized one called Pteranodon too, and of course Quetzalcoatlus which is like giraffe-sized, but pterodactyl specifically are like little screechy housecat sized lizard birds

That's non-trivial in this day and age. I can have a 24 pack of tuna on my doorstep tomorrow with a single click. This requires sleuthing. Congress.gov is, as with most government websites about 30 years out of date. This thing looks like it was designed by DARPA.
