It's definitely a sign of how bad things are that this is going mainstream, but it also gives me so much hope. People are all thinking about this, and almost everyone I've talked to agrees that people should be guaranteed access to a dark sky and a Moon that remains unharmed.

I was approached by people in their 20s and people in their 50s and 60s, all camping in the canyon, all curious about the Moon and all worried about what companies and governments want to do with it. We can build community around these issues, because the consciousness is already there!

Regular people are thinking about this, and they feel so relieved to know that they're not the only ones. When you're telling your audience all this cool stuff about space, they're placing that knowledge in the context of their lived experience! Trust them enough to have these conversations!

In my two nights of giving talks about the Moon to folks camping in the Grand Canyon, I was asked multiple questions about why the Moon is seen as a resource rather than a relative! I was asked whether it's possible to do space exploration in a way that respects the Earth AND the other planets!
