I’ve grown quite tired of politicians, prudes, and puritans trying force all of us to be ruled by their personal views.

How small are their hearts, how closed are their minds, how weak are their faiths that they fear a song, a kiss, a book, or an idea?

One year from today, #NASA probe #Voyager1 will be one light day - 25.9 billion kilometers/16 billion miles - from Earth.

Voyager carries greetings from all humanity.
We're no longer just a spacefaring species.
We're now a starfaring species.

On each #VeteransDay I think of James Wood King, my great-great grandfather, who served in the Union Army in the U.S. Civil War.

Nominated for the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, his life is chronicled in the book “Conspicuous Gallantry” by my brother Eric Faust.

#OTD in 2000, the first crew arrived at the fledgling International Space Station. Every day since, humans have been living and working in space.

The #ISS has grown tremendously since then, and continues to be an extraordinary example of what human beings can do if they choose to work together.

“Roughly 4,000 NASA employees—over 20% of the agency—have left in the past six months. Some were fired or retired early. Many took voluntary buyouts. In all cases, the root cause was the same: orders from on high to prepare for devastating budget cuts.”

#OTD in 1980, Carl Sagan’s “COSMOS: A Personal Voyage” premiered on PBS.
