Jul 5, 1975: Canadian Pacific FP7A diesel locomotive No. 4062, the third unit pulling a westbound freight train, catches fire at mile 78.5 White River Subdivision, about two miles (3.2 km) east of Franz, ON. The crew uncoupled the locomotive to protect the rest of the train. 1/2

Today’s historic pic: 39 years ago today, Diesel loco S310 detaches from its VLine passenger train after arrival at Spencer Street station, Melbourne, March 22 1986.
A couple of S classes remain in service with private operators today but S310 is stored at Seymour Railway Heritage Centre.
