a good bit in 2025 politics is to tell the public to read legislation. since you know many people will focus on one or two words as they're time constrained and/or functionally illiterate you also get the benefit of them feeling enraged by the opposition who say they can't read.

youtube is applying post-processing to all shorts so they look more like Al. this is intentional & malicious.

when their generative Al shorts feature launches users will be less likely to discern what's Al-slop and what's not, and the audience will think Al video is just as good

"Tech writer Alberto Romero posited that when we're scrolling through short video, it's not the content itself that delivers a dopamine hit but the moment we scroll, the millisecond where we're anticipating what might come next …It's the hit of anticipation that we're consuming"

"… people have become acclimated to an environment of rapidly shifting context. We expect an increasing variety of content to be constantly accessibly & easily switchable. Increasingly, very little media consumption is communal or tied to a specific time anymore."

"…those that watched the content projected onto the screen, only about 6% mentioned losing a sense of time. For the group that watched the content from an illuminated screen, like most of our screens are today, the mentions of losing a sense of time rose to 60%"
