For #FossilFriday and a as a throwback, i went to this woolly rhinoceros exhibition. The fossil's name is Erik and he was found around 20 000 years ago in northwestern Croatia.
Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs.

I looove this, the years keep getting pushed further back and there is so much to learn
The presence of two types of early Homo at Atapuerca 200,000 to 300,000 years apart shows that more than one kind of hominin was already moving across Europe in the early Pleistocene. www.science.org/content/arti...
Fossil face found in Spanish cave belongs to first known Western European
Ancient remains suggest at least two types of early humans roamed Europe about 1 million years ago

The nights were so clear the past few days, I could see the stars so perfectly. Especially the Orion belt . I took my binoculars and watched the moon, and then I turned to the stars and saw so many. I really loved this short period of warm weather that allowed me to observe the night sky.

I love when Jelly Welly Space Telly does its thing and gives us *this*. Just to add some Interstellar soundtrack so I can daydream about what else is out there

Tiny graceful alien 💜
When life gets you down, just know that we sea you like this breathtaking bumpy jelly–floating gracefully with the currents of the ocean of life.

Help out a fellow geoarchaeologist!
I've been doing an analysis on Late Neolithic assemblage from northern Croatia, but almost all of the lithic pieces are covered with hard, impossible-to-remove amorphous lumps. Does anyone have similar experiences? How can I remove it without damaging the pieces?

This is beautiful. I wanted to study rock art of the ice age and seeing this makes me happy
As we approach mid-winter, an illustration of cave art showing two Reindeer; from Font de Gaume cave, France.
One is licking or smelling the other who appears to be sleeping? giving birth? dead or dying?.
Originally rendered by someone of the Magdalenian culture, 16,000 years ago.

If you were on Saturn, you’d quickly learn how reflective the rings are…

The rings reflect sunlight and illuminate the night side. Instead of moonshine, it’s Ringshine!

I adore the idea that Neanderthals were among the first avocational paleontologists, collecting Cretaceous mollusks, & bringing them home to show off to their family & friends. 🧪🪨🐚
Between 55,000 and 40,000 years ago, Neanderthals collected at least 15 Cretaceous fossil shells which were left on the floor of Prado Vargas cave, in northern Spain. The intent or purpose is not clear, but they must have noticed these in the rock formations north of the cave.

Kate knows how much I love marine animals, so she made octopuses, jellyfish and one plesiosaurus for me. They always fill me with warm fuzzies when I look at them.

This figurine carved from mammoth ivory is about 40,000 years old (Hohle Fels, Germany). Neanderthals might still have been around when it was made. There is no head, just an eyelet, presumably for suspension...Photo: H. Jensen. © Universität Tübingen

Hi, I'm Kristina and I was preparing to enrol to study archaeology. But my health declined and that's off the table permanently. Instead, I'm on here trying to learn everything from archaeologists, paleontologists, astronomers and marine biologists. Hi there!

What are those weird triangles? That’s where I’ll single out one particular portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (x-ray, ultraviolet, & infrared) from the composite telescope image, which will be like windows in light ✨
