This stuff is so fascinating, isn’t it? I’m barely into this book itself and I am peeling back layers of my own modern ideas of “the kids making goofy words up” as it is all plied to just… human existence, and ideas and people we often think of as formative.

Learning that the Jesus fish sort of came about because the Greek spelling of “fish” doubled as an acronym alluding to “Christ”. It was used as a secret symbol due to censorship in ye olden days, and FOLKS, so many new words form because of censorship.

In a significantly weirder case, "Sleeping Lady with Black Vase" is a 1928 oil painting by Róbert Berény. It was lost in WWII, and considered looted by the Nazis and likely destroyed afterwards in the chaos... until someone recognized it as set dressing in the movie "Stuart Little."

Yes, really.
