"There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning." Words of arch- capitalist Warren Buffet.
Well I've been complaining to the BBC about biased coverage of asylum seekers but I didn't expect Davie to resign over it.

Drives me mad that people talk about Danish immigration policy as a *political* success without bothering to look at the polls.
Aside from the crucial voting system difference, the Social Democrats over this period have haemorrhaged votes to progressive parties and are currently on course for their worst result in 110yrs, while the Green Left are set for their best ever.

The Danish People's Party are currently gaining.
what are the odds that the people in Downing Street briefing this out would also break out in hives at the mere mention of proportional representation?

Who runs the economy? The OBR? The bond markets? And whose economy is it?
The budget is 23 days away, and apparently the UK government are still considering more than a 100 tax and spending plans, but nothing is decided yet and can't be because we don't know the OBR forecast yet.

This really is no way to run a country.

How deep does racism go? Racism is the only explanation for the contrast between Homes for Ukraine (supported community hosting, right to work) and the treatment of refugees from Afghanistan, Sudan etc (hotels and disused camps, no right to work, no recourse to public funds).

On #bbcqt last night, "academic" Matt Goodwin was ignorant of the published research showing that migrants, and especially undocumented migrants, are in general more law-abiding than the settled population. Fear and division get more clicks and votes.

Amid all the fuss, remember that for much of the 1960s and 1970s, "the Spare" Andrew Windsor was just one unfortunate incident away from being the next king.

Hopefully, this appalling saga will lead to a proper national debate on our hereditary monarchy.

Long, long overdue.

Which politician or journalist will have the balls to say that the Epping Forest sex offender is not typical? Research shows that irregular migrants are more law-abiding than regular migrants, who are more law-abiding than the settled population.

Labour's response to the far right is a feeble "Yes, but..". Those who want a strong "No!" will look to the Green Party.
It would have been so easy to write that Labour statement in a way that reflected their policy but attacked Lam/Reform

"We believe that the right to stay here permanently should be based on contribution but suggesting deporting people who've earned that right is appalling."

Over the last 1000 years, have a guess at how many of our 61 monarchs were born here with parents and grandparents who were British.

That’s 50 kings and 11 queens.

How many could claim just two prior generations of English stock?

One.

Some assumptions for Mahmood to question: 1. migrants are a burden 2. most migrants come in small boats 3. most asylum seekers are economic migrants 4. the UK has more than its fair share of migrants. 5. Tougher policing will stop the boats.
"We will have to question some of the assumptions and legal constraints that have lasted for a generation or more" in order to stop the boats, says Labour's new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood

It'd be interesting to ask Farage what he LIKES about England; we know what he hates. For me it's pubs and 100s of real ales (perhaps in common with NF), 100s of artisanal cheeses, the seasons, the variety of landscapes, public footpaths, the range of foreign cuisines, our humour, our history.

Patriotism, according to the musician Billy Bragg, can essentially be understood as giving a shit about your country. Not thinking it is better than every other country. Not Boris Johnson’s ‘world-beating’ nonsense. Or Nigel Farage’s Union Jack socks.
Why We Need to Talk About Englishness
English identity is not something to be afraid of or suppressed within the notion of ‘Britain’ – but to be valued and explored, writes Caroline Lucas
