Writer talking all things video games 🎮
Completed a great course today created by Dariush Derakhshani on story and narrative development for video games.

Yes! Even Anniversary is almost 20 years old now, I think it can only be a good thing to remind people what made the series so great while pushing it forward.

Hopefully the two games will bring more people to the remastered collection too, because your work still holds up man @cnhyv.bsky.social.
Aha! We get best of both worlds... 🇮🇳🦖
Rawr!

She's back apparently.
Personally I'd prefer exploring new lost worlds than another remake/remaster/reimagining of something we crafted under intense duress in the 90's. Fingers crossed, eh.

Dinosaurs will always be cool though...

Pretty attractive recruitment ad, even if Star Wars games don't have the most reliable history of actually getting made.
Last night's biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, led by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). Exciting news for lots of people... but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, which means that 2030 is an *optimistic* guess. Maybe it'll be a PlayStation 7 game

1/2 Catching up on the Game Awards, and, honestly, a new Tomb Raider with OG Lara and a remake of TR1 is is the best announcement of the whole event.

Saddened to hear that Jim Ward passed away today. Ratchet & Clank wouldn't be so singularly, joyously funny without him. Rest easy, Captain.

1 second of Momoa as Lobo is enough to prove that it's perfect casting.
Look out. #Supergirl lands in theaters June 26.

Have a renewed appreciation for @druckmann.bsky.social and @grosstastic.bsky.social after listening to the director's commentary in the Last of Us Part II: Remastered. The big takeaway is how important secondary characters are to pushing the growth of the protagonists forward (shout out Owen).

The rise in AI generated content mentioned in this report isn't a promising sign, but I do wonder if we will see an overcorrection in favour of hand-crafted console and pc games. Perhaps that will come in the wake of GTA VI's release.
This data is saying that the video game industry is going to "recover" in the next 5 years

But *actually*, it says that MOBILE revenue will recover, while PC and console games will fully stagnate

so that's fun!

Boston Consulting: Games market to recover from pandemic slump in 2026, revenue to hit $350m by 2030
Mobile in-app purchases are behind a massive 37% of that, too

So annoying that companies that promote GenAI and LLMs called it AI and didn’t differentiate it from the advanced machine learning algorithms and tools that enable so many great things that are also AI but actually solving a problem, and good.

Read this book! It's a brilliant cautionary tale about what happens when a game studio gets too big. No one provides better insights on the reality of the industry than @jasonschreier.bsky.social, and I certainly feel more equipped to head into the fray knowing how messy things can get!

Great video from @charalanahzard.bsky.social on this story, she's treated it with the nuance it deserves as always. Challenging art should be allowed into the world so it can be freely judged.
Here's my video about @santaragione.com's HORSES, and why it being banned from Steam sucks even if you aren't interested in *this particular game*. Video games as a whole deserve better!

Yes, Steam banning indie game "HORSES" matters.
