From 1899 a beautiful example of Japanese woodblock printing, this is a collection of patterns and designs that were thought even at the time to be ancient. The binding style, called "stab binding" is also quintessentially Japanese.

To keep fragile or small items protected, some of our material is stored in boxes like these. This tiny ‘Book of Nouns’ from 1800 may seem normal size on the shelf, but in reality it’s only 6cm tall!
