I agree, though EON confused the issue by retaining Judi Dench from Pierce Brosnan's run to Craig's run. Still, on the whole, no one cared, nor should they start now.

I believe the early news that came out that Villeneuve would look to cast a fresh face, a younger unknown. That belies the idea they're trying to continue Craig's storyline.

They are two guys w/ period chops, but I don't know. As you've both said, no need to overthink Bond. Just give me something that feels like a Bond movie but freshens the concept some.

The Radar article is too much rumor for me to believe, but I get that outlets want to feed fans starving for Bond news.

I'd guess Amazon doesn't want to reinvent Bond; they want Villenueve's interpretation of Bond. If it doesn't hit, they can start fresh in a few years.

True. The easier PR route would've been to hire a director and writers who had done Bond movies. They did hire Pascal, who produced three of the Craig movies.

I don't know. Villeneuve and Steven Knight have good cred. Of course the jury's out until we see the movie.
November 11, 2025 at 3:49 PM
True. I don't see any way to react to the notion but negatively. :) That's not the kind of buzz they want.
November 11, 2025 at 3:45 PM
I don't buy that they're struggling. They don't start working on the movie until next year. The idea they're struggling is fan fodder to talk about until there is something solid.

"Curry" has a sleazy connotation. I more neutrally mean to say Craig gained sway over Broccoli and Wilson that previous Bond actors apparently didn't have. They promoted him to producer on Spectre and No Time to Die.

"Why did EON kill Bond? Don't they always have 'James Bond will return' in the end credits?"

Answer: Daniel Craig wanted his arc to end w/ Bond's death, and he curried enough influence w/ Broccoli and Wilson that they gave him his wish.

I think some ppl - not me - became attached to the Craig continuity and want continuity from Amazon's movies, though to try and make it work is ludicrous.

Zack Snyder and James Gunn both made Superman movies. Gunn's deliberately diverged from Snyder's, but both have fans who accept the different versions of Superman, just as everyone has their own favorite Bond actor.

Remember this will be Amazon's first Bond movie. It won't have to be connected to EON's movies. I think the new ppl in charge will take advantage of that freedom. I would. I think Amazon's Bond will try to be familiar and fresh at once.

I don't plan to chop wood anytime soon, but the movement is good exercise for snow shoveling, which I may need to do anytime this winter.
