The votes aren't there for impeachment, and they aren't going to be there either no matter what happens.
The choice is impeachment and removal or calamity for the United States. I don't see how anybody watching Trump's speech in Davos can draw any other conclusion. He's a senile madman.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think the top priority for the opposition party in Congress should be appealing to a white middle-aged couple Chuck Schumer imagined who think everything is basically fine-to-good except groceries should be a bit cheaper.

I accept that many on this website disagree with me.

Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.

I increasingly wonder if US civ-mil is now operating in full Huntingtonian mode: civilians dictate political goals & mil leaders advise on technical/tactical options to implement them while siloed off from the political implications or wisdom of that advice.

I would only add that there is a certain assumption about the competency of these people. Americans haven't exactly been serious voters electing serious people. Overall, there is a big degradation in the competency of our government.
No one from the GOP Congressional majority does anything about all this because they're into it.

That's the Occam's razor explanation. Yet there's more focus on finding excuses for them. "No, you have to understand, honoring the Constitution is bad for their job prospects."

OK. So they're into it.

I'm definitely in the hot stove camp, but I think the lags can be longer than people realize.
According to touch-the-stove-ism, Trump managing to remove Fed Chair Powell and install a crony who lowers interest rates, which will likely raise inflation and further weaken the dollar, would be a positive.

It's the only way for the "who cares about the fascism, I've made money" crowd to learn.

TWO. Two chances this Supreme Court had to make the right call. One was the simply call January 6 what it was: An insurrection. Even the liberal justices couldn’t do that. The other was to not make sham and politically-motivated investigations an “official act.”

And here we fucking are.

"The US must take Greenland, whatever the cost"

This is one of the most bootlicking arguments I've read in a very long time. The whole premise of the argument is that scoring all of our allies for "ownership" of a land we already have bases on advances our power in some way.

I suspect the WH opinion is that nobody can do anything about Trump's ambition of conquest.
Europe is finally waking the F up to the fact that they have leverage too.

So much this.
One thing I've learned about our side? Is that we are completely incompetent and unprepared to make critical decisions. The crime scene should have been secured immediately by Minneapolis PD. Instead, our leaders wallowed in the usual press gaggles, speaking slots and hot takes.

I'm conservative when it comes to speculating on what is possible to achieve with the democratic party. For example, they would need a creditable plan for immigration control that doesn't involve ice. It's almost certain they'd be portrayed as soft on immigration.

One of the organizations the US withdrew from is the European Centre for Countering Hybrid Threats.

That group primarily focuses on protecting European democracies from hostile Russian intelligence and military operations. Except the current US government hopes to see those hostile ops succeed.

Agreed. Those people were and are faker than wrestling.
Congrats to the “anti-imperialists” who helped usher in an imperialist U.S. government.

Maybe supporting (or at least anti-anti-ing) politicians who cheered Russian imperialism, and trying to blame Russian aggression on people opposing Russian aggression, wasn’t a good way to oppose imperialism.

TAPPER: Can you rule out the US is going to take Greenland by force?

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

T: So force is on the table?
