Afaict it’s just investment in search of a return. Not even a solution in search of a problem (let alone a solution to an actual problem). Not to say it can’t ever be useful, but that would be a side effect - *being* useful is not the point, persuading the world that it is inevitable is

I suspect that the aim isn’t for AI to get better. It’s for humans to get worse. To care less. For the goo to become acceptable. That’s an easier challenge to overcome.
