Hopefully the huge turnout for the advance polls (7.3 million!) is an indication that people are taking this election seriously. 🤞

In most Canadian electoral districts last election the number of votes for the winner was smaller than the number of registered voters who didn't vote.

Your vote absolutely matters.

I lost the post about CEOs forcing this transformative technology on us.

But it came for me this week. I'm now expected to use AI to "help" me write code.

There are good reasons no one should be using these tools, but as a professional I also don't find them useful.

What's the fucking logic here?

There’s no female police officer that is different than the status quo or is able to change the system. The purpose of a system is what it does, after all, and police are there to protect capital.

Don’t be fooled by the fact she’s female, she’s still advocating for an expansion of police into areas of others’ expertise: mental health, addictions and homelessness.
We need to spend money on those services NOT MORE COPS.

The CEO of Cloudflare -- the company that keeps so much of the Internet running -- is looking at the idea of blocking all AI crawlers, like they were malicious traffic.

If it happens, it'd be a massive, massive deal for tech and media.

Can this tech billionaire save the media from an AI apocalypse?
He thinks the entire internet could be at risk if he doesn't act fast.

I think I've got enough Greater Victoria area folks on here to ask, how's the snow out there?

My road is a tiny side road with a nasty hill that rarely gets plowed and then my townhouse has a private lane we need to clear ourselves so it always feels north of the wall here.

How's the rest of YYJ?

Good to see View Royal (my town) here.

I still have some concerns about the long term health of BlueSky but it's a much better option than any of the big alternates.

I love Mastodon but I know it's got problems for a lot of people and will probably always be small.

@studioneat.bsky.social Any plans to stock the DSM2005 in 0.7mm? Looks like that's the default now but my Mark Three is 0.5mm.

Get you some Signal. If it's not your top choice for DM/IM/SMS style text messaging, it should be.

I replaced FB Messenger & WhatsApp with Signal. I was pleasantly surprised how many of my contacts are already using it - though I’m hoping more make the switch.
Whatsapp, like Facebook, is owned by Zuckerberg's Meta.
Signal is owned by the Signal Foundation. And it's more secure. We have a choice.

Watched True Romance for the first time today the other day.

Strange that I slept on it for so long being such a fan of its contemporaries.

Great film.

My thought here is that money doesn't buy happiness, it buys *margin*: The ability to deal with the shit the world just throws at you. If you have no margin, life is extremely stressful. With margin, you can deal. Lack of stress is not happiness, but it leaves more emotional space *for* happiness.
