Getting annoyed at From Software officially being spelled as one word ("FromSoftware") despite their logo clearly having a space in it.

Had a very bizarre Tekken 8/PlayStation 5 experience yesterday. This will be of minimal interest to other people but I can't stop thinking about it.

Still laughing about a Persona 3 video called "Messiah Lore & Origins"

Haven't used this thing in a while. Here's a quick piece I wrote about Pragmata and how rare a new Capcom IP is these days. Short answer: Less rare than some people think, but still hardly common, and the rest of the industry isn't a lot better.

How Rare is Pragmata Really?
Are new Capcom IPs as elusive as people say?

With everyone talking about Metroid writing, I want to remind everyone that Metroid: Other M, besides being poorly written by its own merit, is also just a worse version of Resident Evil 3.

Going to be really funny if Metroid Prime 4 is bad, not for the reasons people were afraid of, but for completely different reasons.

I think most tech CEOs must be jealous of Larry Ellison, not for his wealth, but because he got it without even pretending to make a product anyone likes. All these other guys fumbling through a keynote about how their product will change the world, wishing they could just be an asshole instead.

Very disappointing. I knew he had connections to Diddy, but I couldn't have imagined it would be this bad.

I don't think the new Steam Machine is a serious threat for Sony for the same reason the Steam Deck wasn't a threat for Nintendo: Valve cannot produce them at scale. They'll remain a niche item. But it will be presumably running up against Microsoft's next Xbox, and that will be a tighter race.

The Sony PC gaming strategy has been very confusing to me. Feels like their gaming division and their consumer electronics division are not on the same page at all.

Just remembered that one of the very first games revealed for PlayStation 4 was Grim Fandango Remastered. Very odd choice to sell your new console.

Ape Escape: On The Loose is a version of Ape Escape made to be playable with only one analog stick and it does not have the PlayStation's graphical quirks. In other words, it's basically what Ape Escape would have been like if it were on the N64

The paradox of Hideo Kojima: His critics believe that he takes credit for other people's work while also completely ignoring the credits the he puts all over his games.

On occasion, I try playing the original Grand Theft Auto out of historical curiosity.

It's bad.

Semantic observation: when people say action RPG, they tend to mean games like Tales, Ys, or Kingdom Hearts. When people say ARPG, they mean Diablo and games like Diablo

I'm always fascinated by games that feel stuck between generations. Examples include Tekken Tag Tournament (PS2 game derived from PS1-era arcade hardware) and Super Smash Bros Melee (insanely rushed sequel to a late N64 game). The Dreamcast is basically an entire console of games like that.

Competitive shooter guy complaining that single-player games get too much attention because multiplayer gamers are a minority is so funny. The whole industry has bent over backwards to appease guys like you, to their own detriment. How are you still finding things to complain about

Not going to jump on the original post but of all the games you could choose, using Final Fantasy VII as an example of the good old days when games didn't have bugs and were finished when they were released is another reminder that a lot of people are nostalgic for things they don't actually know.
