Venus (still very bright despite only about 8% visible) and Mercury (which reached its greatest eastern elongation tonight and was eye visible despite a light dusk sky). This was captured about 18.50 UT. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.bsky.social @photohour.bsky.social
Venus (top) is close now to inferior conjunction and will soon be too close visibly to the Sun to be seen. Mercury has reached its furthest east position.

As dusk falls in London, there's a beautiful Moon high up. Waxing Gibbous at 71.7% with the Clavius crater showing well in the south #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.bsky.social @photohour.bsky.social
The Clavius crater is one of the largest on the Moon, a nice chain of 5 secondary craters and the fictitious base in the film 2001, a space odyssey.

I managed to get out to the Oare Marshes nature reserve for the first time in years this lunchtime! I was rewarded by my first sight of a great egret (Ardea alba) which used to be a rare sighting in the UK prior to 2012 (when they first began breeding here) #birdsoftheworld #UKbirds #birds #Kent #UK

The whale breach beauty continues! (They put on a good show for us last weekend). In some ways the extreme haze made for nicer lighting, not so much midday harshness. 🌿📷🦑
