Hard liquor mixed with a little bit of intellect.
I love working on a university campus (that is, essentially gay Hallowe'en), because what do you mean I just parked my car next to a tiny hatchback that somehow contained a 7ft Samhain wooden staff covered in flowers and vines?

As a lifetime Freddie Mercury fan and a fair-weather Jays fan, I’m really enjoying all the Queen anthems on the Canadian broadcasts.

What are we meal prepping this week? I’m doing lasagna arriba (think tortilla and filling layered), and white bean chicken chili!

A propos of nothing, I just want people here in the Good Place to know and understand (and maybe consider?) that we have 11 universities in NS and all the Presidents there make less than 5% of the President of our power corporation.

Humans are bad at scale of numbers so I think this is important. 💕

I joke all the time about my beloved station-wagon that we bought the last year it was made but MY GOD do I want a friggin’ station-wagon to be designed before I buy a new car so I won’t hit anybody or have any sight line issues while driving in a city!
“The rise in high-fronted SUVs poses a clear and growing threat to public safety, especially for children,” states the report. “With no benefit to society, it’s time for lawmakers at all levels to act.” Via @carltonreid.com in @forbes.com.

Cap SUV/truck hood heights. And ban unsafe designs.

Higher fronts on cars significantly increase the death rate when pedestrians and cyclists are struck, says new report. EuroNCAP says more complex than that.

We are en route to Halifax inbound on the 102 and have seen twelve (twelve!) police trucks flying down the highway outbound near Stewiacke. Hope everything is okay.

We need more non-profit housing and effective rent control.
New data shows that average asking rents for Halifax increased from 43%-68% between 2019-2025, with studios increasing the second most in the country. Review the data: www.novascotia.ca/finance/stat...

You know, I was just thinking about how neat it would be to value women’s work with education and a degree and I realized that I just meant a modern home economics program. Would have been cool if that wasn’t squashed and evolved into more of a study of the work. Hmm.

If you're in Halifax, you may want to check and see if you were at the four listed locations on April 26 as you may have been exposed to measles. www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/...

I recently got three migraines with auras in a week. Wild ride!

But as a result, I had to stop taking the hormonal birth control I was using for 20 years and have been feeling all out of sorts since. Crying at the drop of a hat. Being bothered by things that don’t usually bother me.

If you had told me that I would buy a bike with a battery and a motor to get around Halifax cheaply and efficiently when I first moved here, I would have laughed very hard.

Things change, and the more options for folks to easily and accessibly not drive everywhere is absolutely the answer.
I am pro-bike lane but even if #Halifax had bike lanes everywhere, not everyone will bike. I lived on the peninsula for years and walked/took the bus everywhere. I didn't own a car. But I never would have biked home from my bar gig at 4am. People who work long shifts on their feet won't bike home.

We obviously had no way of knowing last year when we bought Nick Cave tickets but going on mini vacay in Montreal this weekend has been a wild ride. I kid you not, I just saw a woman cooing her infant in a stroller in the hotel lobby chanting “go habs go”

I was actually surprisingly affected by Pope Francis’s death. I was raised Catholic, am not religious, however am not naive to the moral and customary remnants of being raise with a set of values and rules.

My family is fairly progressive and was often wrestling with this dichotomy of practice.
A lot of folks mourning Pope Francis don't appear to be Catholic, which I find sincerely interesting. What is it about that role that draws folks even when it's not their religion? (context: I am Catholic, lapsed when I was old enough to fully understand the terms and conditions).

I actually have a phobia of mushrooms and so instead of watching The Last of Us, I’m watching another sinister parasite, landed English gentry featured in an Agatha Christie mini-series.
